GENEBRE Technical Session: EU Drinking Water Directive (EU) 2020/2184, in collaboration with ENGINYERS BCN

17/09/2026

Last Tuesday, September 15, we took part in a new TecnoJornada, held in collaboration with the Col·legi d’Enginyers Graduats i Enginyers Tècnics Industrials de Barcelona (Enginyers BCN), to address the changes introduced by the European Drinking Water Directive (EU 2020/2184 DWD) and their application in industry.

The technical session, which combined in-person attendance at the Col·legi’s Assembly Hall with online participation via videoconference, brought together numerous professionals and installers interested in understanding the technical and regulatory implications affecting drinking water installations.

The technical presentation was delivered by two members of Genebre’s specialist team:

  • Xavier Cazorla, Quality & Environmental Director at Genebre and Chairman of the Quality and Innovation Committee at Enginyers BCN.
  • Xavier Tutusaus, Hydrosanitary Product Manager at Genebre.

Objectives of the Session

During the session, the latest developments introduced by Directive 2020/2184 DWD, concerning the quality of water intended for human consumption, were presented in detail. This new directive represents a significant change from the previous regulatory framework and introduces a risk management approach covering the entire supply chain, explicitly including indoor building water systems.

This new approach has a direct impact on how drinking water systems are designed, how materials are selected, and how installations are implemented and maintained — all key areas for industry professionals.

The conference provided a clear, practical and forward-looking overview of the new requirements, helping professionals anticipate regulatory changes, minimise the risk of non-compliance, and improve the quality and safety of drinking water installations.

Alignment with the European Regulatory Context

The technical discussion held in Barcelona takes place against a backdrop of significant regulatory activity at European level. Recently, the National Association of Tap and Valve Manufacturers (AGRIVAL), an organisation of which Genebre is a member, took part in the Annual Congress of the European Committee of Manufacturers of Taps and Valves (CEIR) in Brussels.

By organising this TecnoJornada, Genebre reinforces its commitment to technical knowledge-sharing and to the continuous adaptation of its products to the most demanding standards in terms of health, sustainability and food safety.

We remain committed to sharing technical knowledge and staying close to professionals across the industry.
